The first few months of the year saw more progress on the Matthews Innovation and Transportation Gallery expansion project.  In January, the nail laminated timber (NLT) roof panels were installed, as were some exterior walls.  As weather conditions permitted in February and March, work continued to install the roof components and build more of the exterior building envelope.  If you have been to the Museum lately, you would have noticed that the building is starting to really take shape.

In addition to this very visible change, the construction team continues to work behind the scenes to move forward on all aspects of the construction.  From elevator steel coordination to electrical conduit placement, and even type and colour of window blinds, every detail is being meticulously reviewed and coordinated by the Architects, Engineers, and Contractors.

Due to the delay in receiving and installing the NLT panels for the roof, the project completion date has been pushed back to the end of the year.  That delay means that, while our full schedule of events and activities is continuing this year, many activities will again need to have some modifications to accommodate our space restrictions.  While this may be disappointing to some, we believe that the building will be worth the wait, and look forward to being able to show it off to you!
