Donation of Artifacts - ProceduresInside one of the Museums Collections Storage Areas showing antique dress forms, rolled textiles and a pennyfarthing bicycle

When an object is offered for donation, Museum staff must determine whether the object would be a suitable addition to the collection. If the object has Simcoe County history, and there are not similar objects in the Collection, it is accepted on a temporary basis. Once at the Museum, staff conduct research about the object and then provide a report to the Performance Management Committee of County Council with recommendations on whether to accept the donation.

If an object is refused, the item is returned to the donor, or disposed of according to the wishes of the donor. If an object is accepted, a gift form is signed by both the Museum Curator and Donor, transferring legal ownership of the object from the donor to the Simcoe County Museum. If requested, a tax receipt for the fair market value of the object may be given to the donor for income tax purposes. The tax receipt is sent annually in late January.

Now you can have access to hundreds of our artifacts using the PastPerfect Online portal.
