Zaagidwin Love Exhibit

Honouring what is made through zaagidiwin (love)

In recognition of National Indigenous History Month, the Simcoe County Museum is celebrating the grand opening of a new exhibit featuring Indigenous pieces from the Museum’s collection along with those created by modern Indigenous artists.

This exhibit will officially open to the public on Wednesday, June 26 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and run until September 29, 2024. Known as Honouring what is made through zaagidiwin (love): A showcase of past and present pieces, each of the handcrafted pieces tells a story through natural materials used and was inspired by each individual artist’s love for the land.

The members of Georgina Fibre Artists are passionate about nature in their own backyards, in the larger Canadian landscape, and around the world. Majestic creatures, beautiful flowers, eye-catching rock formations, aggressive thunderstorms and the infinite variety of colours in the changing seasons: these all provide daily inspiration.

The artworks selected for “Stories from Nature” invite you the viewer to see what we see when we look up or look down at our subjects. They are intended to delight, with the variety, beauty and bold impact of the natural world around us.

This exhibition features a variety of styles and interpretations of mixed media fibre art, showcasing the work of local artists with a variety of backgrounds and artistic interests.
