FOR KINDERGARTEN TO GRADE 2 STUDENTS

Growth & Change in the Natural World


Your class will discover the diversity of life with an outdoor experience designed to examine the basic needs and characteristics of animals and plants. What makes up a healthy environment? How does nature recycle everything? Students will investigate the similarities and differences between various groups of species. What is adaption and how does it help an individual species survive? Young scientists will investigate these questions in a field study using sweepnets to take a look at life in a field.

Curriculum Expectations
  • Explore patterns in the natural and built environment (e.g. patterns on flowers, on animal’s coats etc.).
  • Investigate and compare the physical characteristics of various plants and animals.
  • Observe and compare the physical and behavioural characteristics of a variety of animals.
  • Describe an adaption as a characteristic body part, shape, or behaviour that helps a plant or animal to survive in it’s environment.
